Basics

Living in a small hamlet of equally kind and silly looking mutuals, Poingo is a "fly by the seat type of pants" type person, which is convenient for him, since he makes his own pants.

He makes a lot of things, actually! From knitted hats, to bookmarks, to whatever snacks he's having for that picnic. Poingo loves to use his hands, despite the condition he has in his left one. Its softness makes it harder to grip and causes strain with prolonged use, so he often has to take breaks and rest himself. This is when he takes the time to stop and smell the roses, and remind himself even if he's not spending time on crafts, if he's enjoying life, can he really call that 'wasted time'?

Notes on Poingo

Honestly, I still find it funny how I decided to make him an actual thing and character. So, one day on a Discord server at probably like, 1AM, I went into a random channel and said "its poingo time yall" with zero context before passing out. Poingo just sounded like a funny word to me. One of my friends loves making up absurd sounding words and then injecting them into his vocabulary, so in retrospect that could've been my attempt at that.

I guess I was thinking about when I said that, though, because four days later I posted Poingo there. I was honestly blown away with how well-received he was, as a lot of my friends started to draw him and loved his design. I was so happy; especially since a lot of them found him easy to draw, which helped them sometimes during art slumps. I was just really glad knowing that something I made helped someone during an art block. It was a really uplifting thing to hear.

And Poingo himself is just a character I'm relived to have. I have a really bad habit with overcomplicating my characters, stressing over nuance and making them complex, only to end up trying so hard I loop back around to possibly writing shallow, even cliche stories -- what I was trying so hard to avoid to begin with, lmao.

Poingo is entirely void of that. He's 100000% just self indulgent lmao. There is no overarching plot, and if there's conflict, it's very minor and it gets worked through in a healthy way. Basically he's just a little funky skrunkly I can doodle while still feeling like I'm accomplishing something, lmAO.

One final note I want to say is about his arm. When I first drew his right hand, I had a lot of trouble with it. I eventually decided to leave it somewhat mishappen, but later as I kept drawing him, I thought of incorporating it not only as a disability he has to live with, but also because its soft shape reminds me of a stuffed animal that has one limb softer than the other after years of attention. It's comforting, I guess. :">
